Elden Kelly and Bobby Bringi: In 2009, in East Lansing, Michigan, Bringi met virtuoso guitarist Elden Kelly, schooled in jazz and classical, and fascinated by World and Indian music. He reminisces “The first time we played together, it felt like we were long-lost musical brothers; our collaboration blossomed, and I composed melodic canvases to which Elden would bring his improvisational genius.”
Kelly and Bringi played as a duo at a popular East Lansing restaurant, Mumbai, once a month for a year and a half. They played as a quintet at the Lansing Jazz Festival, and have performed at the Zaha-Hadid designed Broad Museum of Modern Art. Their collaboration has continued to this day.
Michigan-based music critic Lawrence Consentino writes: “Elden and Bobby stir a piquant and elusive sauce…a swirl of converging elements…they exchange glances, nods and shrugs in a deceptively relaxed rapport…tight focus gives their music the bones to wander the musical map…”.
In the early 2000’s in Ithaca, New York, Bringi met a multifaceted flamenco guitarist, Camilo Nascimento. They played a regular weekly duo gig for a couple of years at the popular hangout ABC café, and also performed at the annual downtown Ithaca Festival. While a student in Banaras, Bringi was lead guitarist in a rock and roll band, Hot Rock, performing to popular acclaim at festivals in Banaras, Allahabad, and Delhi.
